About
Tubby Dog @ 1022 17th Ave SW, Calgary AB
History
Tubby Dog opened it’s doors in August 2005, but the hot dogs were being served long before.
Jon Truch started making hot dog’s in his basement sculpture studio of Alberta College of Art and Design in 1999, much to the delight of studio mates and passers by. In the evenings, Truch was slinging dogs over the bar at Calgary’s now defunct Night Gallery. Tuesday nights at the Gallery, Truch served up free hot dogs and good tunes with DJ D’Jewel.
In August 2005, Truch opened Tubby Dog on 17th Ave in Calgary’s downtown core. Open day and night, serving beers, dogs, twinkies and T-rings, Tubby Dog has become a Calgary staple. It’s a unique environment filled with eye candy, arcade games, projected cartoons, movies and customers and staff from all walks of life.
